In Malachi 3:10 we are asked to.....

"Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this," says the LORD Almighty, "and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it."

Tithing is not about some ancient law that states we have to bring 10% of everything we have into the house of God. (Leviticus 27:32). Tithing is about our relationship with God and whether we are willing to place all that we are, and all that we have, into the hands of God. It is when we do this that we find that we become the hands and feet of Christ (Romans 12:5). It is when we do this that timeless Spiritual principles come into play. (Ecclesiastes 11:1). The simple reason why I want you to tithe is that it is a blessing for you in ways you couldn’t begin to imagine. I want you to experience the blessing that comes with tithing!

The amount you pledge in tithe (1%. 2%, 5%, 10% or whatever) is between you and God alone. Where you tithe is also between you and God. Of course New Light MCC would be grateful for your tithe; However, tithing isn’t about the church, it’s about YOU. If you don’t believe me then tithe to the Red Cross, tithe to the Humane Society, but tithe.

When we tithe we commit all that we are and all that we have to God. The money that we give is seed money; it creates a flow of generosity, it creates a flow of Spirit, it places wheels in motion that bless the world and come back to be a blessing to you as well. This is my own experience; that when I gave God everything that I suddenly found that I had more than ever and was happier than I had ever been. I know this sounds like I’m the Pastor on a begging kick, but I mean every word. Try it for three months. Expect the first couple of months to be a challenge but then see what happens in the third. You want to be blessed? Be a blessing. You want to move forward in your relationship with God? Then tithe.

On a purely human note tithing also helps us to see our giving in perspective. When you give a set amount regularly it’s easy to feel guilty when we don’t have enough to give. We feel that our giving should remain the same regardless of our circumstances. The same is true when we enjoy a windfall, we fail to see the blessing we can be with our gifts because we feel that we’re already fulfilling an obligation.

Giving should never be an obligation. A gift is not a gift if you feel you have to give it. Tithing is worship in the purest form, it is a reminder that all we do is Holy and that God is with us in all that we do. It is the biblical way of giving from the heart consistently. It is a joy and a blessing to all who practice it. If you don’t believe me – ask them. I want the blessings that they and I experience to come to you. What are you missing out on by not tithing? You’ll never know until you do.
