Carry On

Outside the doors of church, away from the bible, when you are living and working in the secular world, where do you find additional sources of strength?

…Cause we are, We are shining stars, We are invincible, We are who we are, On our darkest day, When we're miles away, So we'll come, We will find our way home…

…If you're lost and alone, Or you're sinking like a stone, Carry on

…May your past be the sound, Of your feet upon the ground, Carry on

Those words above are from the song “Carry On” by the band called FUN. I love it when music, pop music speaks to me; it usually is the words combined with the artist's unique "sound" will evoke an emotional response. In this song, the first time I heard it on the radio a few months ago, a sense of hope was present. However there is no guarantee that any two of us might by some miracle have the same feelings evoked.

In a prior release by FUN, the song “Some nights” gets right to the point. “Some nights, I always win, ... But I still wake up, I still see your ghost, Oh Lord, I still not sure what I stand for… What do I stand for? What do I stand for? Most nights, I don't know...”  ...fear and doubt...

After the resurrection, the disciples were told to go, continue the work that Christ began, yet in John 21:1-19; they seemed to be at a loss of direction … they were not quite sure what they stood for or what to do and it gives us an appearance they were all about to just … maybe go back to old ways, return to their old jobs, and Christ had to come AGAIN and tell them, to … “Carry on”

If you have been profoundly changed over the past Lent and Easter Season, it is easy for any of us to slip back into old patterns the further we get from Easter. Patterns that probably were not the best for us to begin with, new is scary and unsure, so ask yourself the question, “What do you stand for?” and if you’re not sure, pray, pray for guidance and

“Carry on, Carry on”

Peace

Harry
