A Time For Giving November is a special month for many people. These four weeks represent a time for giving, a time for being thankful, and a time for being good stewards. What is a "steward"? What does it mean to show stewardship toward someone else? Wikipedia defines the word stewardship as, "an ethic that embodies responsible planning and management of resources." As Christians, we are asked to give, serve, and ultimately help one another throughout our lifetime. Each and every one us do just that when we volunteer in the community, join a church committee, or simply tithe a portion of the earnings that God has blessed us with. New Light MCC has formed a team of volunteers who gather together to suggest, discuss, research and help to put into action financial plans that benefit those in need. Last year, Haiti survived a devastating earthquake that left many civilians homeless, injured, starving and without a way to provide for their families. In 2012, Deacon Colleen Foley will be travelling to Port-au-Prince, Haiti and the Dominican Republic for a mission trip and required seminary experience. Our goal as a congregation is to help her with the traveling expenses as much as we possibly can. And we at New Light have made it easy to do so! Each Sunday we will have small Advent canisters available at the church and we encourage you to take one home and fill it with your spare change. Every little bit counts and every little bit helps. When your can is full, please bring it in and we will collect them before, during, and after worship. This is one example of how we can take the blessings that God has bestowed on us and pass them on to our neighbors near and far. One penny in Hagerstown will make the world of difference in Haiti. It is amazing how the love of Jesus Christ can stretch to any and all corners of the world when we work together for a greater good. -The Stewardship Team Recent Posts
